ABOUT CAPITAL PAWS GROUP
The Capital Paws Group is a co-operative of veterinary practices in the ACT and neighbouring areas of NSW. The group began in 2012 with hospitals at Kippax, Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra. In the time since, we have expanded to locations at Manuka, Kaleen, Coombs, Holder, Googong, and Downer. In so doing, we have welcomed four additional business partners, along with many talented and dedicated colleagues.
The Capital Paws Group is unique in the Australian veterinary landscape. Our goal is to combine the benefits of local ownership by engaged and enthusiastic vets, with the advantages of membership of a larger organisation.
All of our vet practices retain their own individual character and place in the local community. Each has a unique history and a distinct personality, created over the years by the efforts of our team members and the clients and patients that they serve. Every hospital has a director who works on site and is committed to seeing their colleagues thrive and the clients and patients receive the best of care.
Through arranging ourselves as a practice group, we have developed a large network of vets and nurses with a range of special interests, including; behaviour, surgery, internal medicine, exotic medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, acupuncture, dermatology and practice management. All of our hospitals have excellent facilities and equipment. However, we also have the benefit of internal referral for services such as radioactive iodine treatment and advanced orthopaedic surgery.
We understand how intense and challenging veterinary work can be and we take our responsibility to each other’s welfare very seriously. We have a new graduate program for supporting younger vets, official and unofficial mentoring systems, an externally run Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and a culture of regularly checking in with our colleagues.
At Capital Paws we also believe strongly in creating genuine and meaningful career opportunities for vets, nurses, receptionists and others on our team. We empower staff members to take on management roles in the individual hospitals. We also have a central leadership group who contribute to the direction of the organisation as a whole.
We have a strong commitment to “giving back” to the veterinary profession and also to the broader community. We are supporters of the AVA and the VNCA. We also contribute to Pets in the Park, Domestic Violence Services Canberra and many local animal rescue groups. We run our own charitable organisation called “The Canberra Mob”, which provides animal health programs to remote communities in the Northern Territory.
We are very proud of what we have achieved at Capital Paws Group and of the great veterinary calling that we serve. We deeply value the fact that everyone in our organisation is a contributing member of our local community. We all share the common purpose of caring for our patients and their owners with compassion, empathy, dedication and kindness.
